Bristlenose-Behavior & Temperament

Writer: Carolyn PietznerCarolyn Pietzner

Bristlenose Plecos are quite laid-back. They are a peaceful fish that coexist well with other calm species. Since Plecos reside at the bottom of the tank, they are unlikely to notice fish inhabiting other areas of the water column.

During daylight hours, Bristlenose Plecos are not very active. Their camouflaging colors can make them difficult to spot, as they often rest in caves and dark hiding places.

At night, Plecos become significantly more active. They swim around searching for food in the substrate. When they locate a spot rich in algae, they typically remain there, consuming as much as possible before sunrise.
